Customer
PrivatBank is the largest Ukrainian commercial bank and one of the largest banks in Eastern Europe. It was one of the first banks in Ukraine to introduce digital banking services and technological solutions that allow customers to use most services remotely. It has the second-largest network of branches and the largest network of ATMs and terminals in Ukraine. The bank owns the PrivatMoney money transfer system and the most popular payment services in Ukraine, Privat24 and LiqPay. It was the first in Ukraine to connect Google Pay and Apple Pay payment services.
Task
The customer was using NGINX + VRRP, but the interaction with the API and automation of this binding was extremely limited. The previous operating model had several shortcomings that needed to be addressed by implementing a unified, reliable, and stable solution for balancing network traffic.
Solution
PrivatBank approached BAKOTECH to help implement F5 BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager network traffic balancing system to cover all its needs.
The transition to F5 LTM was a bit time-consuming due to the busy IT team of the bank, but it wasn’t difficult to understand the solution in general. The customer had some questions about implementing their ideas with F5 BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager, so they contacted BAKOTECH technical support for advice and numerous times directly to the vendor. All issues were promptly and efficiently resolved.
Result
The most important result of the F5 LTM implementation is the additional stability of the data center and the ability to automate without problems in the existing infrastructure. The system doesn’t require additional customization unless necessary.
Most of all, the customer liked the ability to use vCMP technology, thanks to which the bank was able to physically allocate hardware resources between projects without any difficulties. Moreover, PrivatBank created several geographically distributed (over 500 km) clusters of 4 nodes each, avoiding delays or stability issues.
The head of PrivatBank’s data center department claims that F5 is much more stable than its previous solution stack. In his opinion, one of the biggest advantages of the F5 LTM solution is the ability to interact with it via API.
PrivatBank’s IT team plans to expand the use of F5 solutions due to their features, stability, and reliability.
